Thuru Lodge was developed in 2001, a visualized Kalahari Dream. It is a place where luxury, serenity and adrenaline comes together.
Where are we situated?
Thuru Lodge is situated close to Groblershoop in the Northern Cape, at the gateway of the Green Kalahari. With a rainfall of only 200mm per annum Thuru Lodge is truly an oasis in the desert.
Family business
In 2010, Hennie Gous and his family bought the lodge and since then his daughter, Mardoret and her husband, Braam, have been managing the lodge. Thuru Lodge is part of a family business and we strive to give all our guests the best possible experience -arriving as clients but leaving as friends.
Vegetation and landscape
Thuru Lodge’s unique variety of vegetation types, which is broadly classified into Nama Karoo, Kalahari and Karoo mountain vegetation, runs for 45 000 acres and therefore a wide variety of fauna and flora can be seen and experienced.
The lodge offers a wide and open landscape with 30+ different game species that will take your mind off things during your stay.
Accommodation & activities
Our 5 star luxurious lodge will give you the opportunity to experience Africa at its best. We offer various activities like horse riding, quad biking, game drives, dune dinners, serenity spa, swimming pools, Jacuzzi etc. Our specialty is a formal dinner in the red sand dunes under the open sky.
Every lodge room is build and furnished different than the other rooms to give all returning clients a different experience every time they visit us.
We have a full time qualified SPA therapist and you will enjoy all the Kalahari treatments and products.
Meaning of the name
In the local Khoisan language, thuru means to cast off skin, to change into another creature. This is what you will experience while hunting in the breathtakingly beautiful red Kalahari sand dunes. You will also experience solace for your soul in the warm ambiance of the luxurious Thuru lodge.
