A donation is literally defined as an act or instance of presenting something as a gift, grant, or contribution by Dictionary.com. It must have the purpose to benefit a cause, typically for charity, given by a physical or legal person.

One can find various form of donations, including cash offering, clothing, toys, services, and even vehicles. It can sometimes even relate to medical care needs late donating blood, or organs for a transplant.

Donations are given without the expectation of wanting something in return. The person giving the donation is called the donar and the person receiving the donation is called the donee.

In politics, some countries have restricted politicians to accept any gifts or donations, especially large sums of money from businesses.

A donation can also be made in the name of a third party, to honor either a memory of someone or something and is called making a gift in honor.
