Knysna is situated in the heart of the Garden Route and with a wide variety of luxurious Guest Houses, fully-equipped Caravan Parks and up-market hotels it is the perfect town to stay while exploring the surrounding areas.

With an oceanic climate the summers are hot (with a maximum temperature of about 25 °C (77 °F)) and and the winters are mild to chilly (with temperatures ranging from 16 °C (61 °F) to 17 °C (63 °F)). Knysna also has one of the richest rainfall percentages in South Africa and the wettest time of the year is between June and August. Knysna stays green in all seasons and is a perfect tourist destination all year round.

Knysna is a popular tourist destination due to the year-round warm climate. Knysna has also become a preferred destination among golfers as the town boasts several world class golf courses with one of them situated on the lagoon.

The Knysna Lagoon is a must-see spot as it is home to the lustrous Pansy Shell. Leisure Ilse is one of the perfect spots to visit as it combines a fun day at the beach, canoeing, kayaking, speed boat riding and even fishing.

Another must-see spot are the Knysna Heads. With a paved pathway and secure balustrade this allows for excellent photography opportunities. Scuba diving at the Heads is also a popular pastime.

On the western side is Featherbed Nature Reserve which is privately owned and can only be reached by ferry from the Knysna Waterfront. If visiting during August and September, the Heads viewpoint is the best place to view the Southern Right whale.

You can even enjoy a safari experience or animal adventure at one of the many sanctuaries nearby. Feed elephants at the Knysna Elephant Park, get up close and personal with big cats at Jukani Wildlife Sanctuary or Tenikwa Wildlife Awareness Centre, wonder at the beauty of birds at Birds of Eden or visit the curious and friendly monkeys ant Monkeyland Primate Sanctuary.

If you’ve had enough adventure for one day, spoil yourself with some shopping, from malls to flee markets, visit the nearby winelands, have a nice relaxing massage or enjoy a delicious meal at one of the many restaurants Knysna has to offer.
