Food is an important part of any safari experience and should be a real highlight. At Thuru Lodge, we strive to offer you the best meals while visiting us.
What can you expect?
Sundowners on the big red dune
After a successful day of game watching, a sundowner on the biggest red dune is the ultimate experience.
You can enjoy platters with delicious varieties and a drink of your choice. Our butler, Willem, always makes sure that everyone is tended to with food and drinks.
To make this even more special, you will see the most beautiful sunset.
Imagine eating under the star-strewn sky, next to a roaring fire, between the red sands of the Green Kalahari. Our famous dune dinners are very popular and never fail to delight our guests.
One of our signature dishes is a Sprinbok shank served on mashed potatoes. Perfectly cooked everytime by our chef, Bet. She works wonders at crafting meals that will appeal to any palate.
Traditional South African braai
One of the things that are proudly a South African tradition is a braai around an open fire or camp fire. Braai means to make a wood fire and roast meat on a grid, with a drink of your choice. Sit back, relax and enjoy this with family and friends.
Other traditional meals include potjiekos and lamb shanks. This is also made on an open fire and never disappoints!
Whether you eat a hearty breakfast or a nice Kudu fillet, always expect the best at Thuru Lodge – wholesome, tasty food made by skilled hands and served with the Green Kalahari’s warm hospitality!
